This is the uncropped version of the earlier image featuring the Carnival Elation just before departure from the San Diego Cruise Ship Terminal.

There appears to be a universal characteristic of every beach at sunset, where there is this special, brief window of time when every body, every bird, and every wave somehow mutes and dampens sound in unison.  This special silent moment commands my thoughts and emotions inward until it has finished.  Later in the week, this moment visits me in my cube as I type.  It will visit me again a week later during the frantic hours….and then when it visits no more, I know that it is time to renew.

I grew up just blocks from Peterson’s Donut Corner on Escondido Boulevard in Escondido, California.  This little gem of a landmark is still going strong, and it is not uncommon to see little faces lined up at the large plate glass windows searching for that perfect frosted delight.
